It is common, the over whelming feeling we get when everything works against us, regardless of all our efforts. It is common.
A go to feeling and action is denial, then a total change of plot, we think oh yes, we have come to the end of the road without properly assessing where we are and where we would want to be.
At such moment where we feel all hope is lost and the battle can’t be won, I brandish the 3Rs at those times-this can be a life hack just for you when faced with a wall.
R for Rest.
We all think rest is for the lazy ones, the mediocre and those whose purpose is not to win nor make an impact in this world. True. If you truly want to change the world, there is no time for rest, you can ask the Hare what rest did to him while racing the shell boy. It ended well but not in favour of Mr Long Ears.
Contrary to popular opinions. To you who want to achieve more? Who want to change and impact an entire generation? Rest is also for you.
Rest allows you the time to refuel and recharge for the next lap, it helps you clear your mind and gets you focused. They say “nothing beats a good night rest”, a lot of magic can be performed after you’ve rested.
Rest, allows your mind to function properly. Most of our obstacles springs up from us not being able to rest.
Rest is you going out with friends, listening to music, reading a book, having a conversation with a friend, playing football, eating or actual sleep. Whatever that helps clear your mind, take action today and do it. Rest.
R for Review
Just as our first R is crucial, so is the second.
My friend just woke up from a nap, he is still walking around with a Styrofoam on his head. He rested, woke up, but failed to review. If he had reviewed, he might have seen the Styrofoam hanging down from his head.
Review is the assessment of the efforts we’ve made so far. How far we have come, what we have done, what we couldn’t do, what we can do next and where we would want to get to. All these questions are answered. When we review, we get an idea of what to do next to perform better.
If an action produces an undesired outcome, review assists us to properly assess how best we can perform next time.
Take out the review process, there is a high probability that you will still repeat the same processes that is not producing your desired outcome. You keep going in circles.
After you’ve rested, review. Take out that pen and paper and write, read that book about the particular thing you want to achieve, talk things through with someone of much experience. Whatever way you feel will help you assess the present situation, take action today and do it. Review.
R for Restart
While you’ve rested and reviewed, what’s next? Restart.
At this point we begin afresh, not as novices but as people already informed from past events, as people with a new plan and a newly drafted way to move forward.
Restarting is you actually applying all drawn out conclusions from your review to help you be more productive.
Restart is your second chance, a second shot at the same task ahead of you just that this time you are equipped with a foreknowledge from your review.
The only way out of a problem is through it, not around. You can only go through when you’ve decided you want to, so affirm today and go through your obstacles with the plans you’ve laid out. Decided today and take action. Restart.
Bonus: you can apply the 3Rs to everything, life, school, relationship or when you’re learning a new skill. Whatever that involves you, faced with a wall? You can navigate through with a quick R, R, R.
